Peripheral stimulation affects subthreshold Triple Stimulation Technique

چکیده

Compared to conventional transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), the triple technique (TST) strongly decrease effects of desynchronization descending discharges and accompanying phase cancellation that follow TMS offers a more sensitive method quantify motor evoked potentials (MEPs). Using TST, we explored as whether sub-threshold evokes peripheral neuron (MNs). We compared number MEPs elicited by TST in fifteen healthy participants. used subthreshold intensity 80 % resting threshold. To control assessment corticospinal tract, included condition, which consisted alone, subgroup five volunteers. TMS, at intensities did not detect significantly responses unequivocally attributable cortical stimulation. In contrast, supra-maximal stimuli produced confounding condition were, part, indistinguishable from responses. At intensities, does spinal MNs than and, addition, it is confounded The can be useful assessing integrity MN pool tract. However, if near threshold intensity, need considered; for instance, paired-pulse paradigms physiology.

Subthreshold olfactory stimulation can enhance sweetness.

The impact of olfactory perception on sweetness was explored in a model solution using odorants at subthreshold concentrations. First, the impact of 6 odorants, previously described in the literature as congruent with sweetness, was investigated at suprathreshold level in a sucrose solution. Ethyl butyrate and maltol were selected as they had the highest and the lowest sweetness-enhancing prope...

Occipital nerve stimulation for chronic migraine: a randomized trial on subthreshold stimulation.

INTRODUCTION Occipital nerve stimulation (ONS) may provide pain relief in migraine patients. In this double-blinded trial we investigated the significance of paresthesia and possible placebo effects. METHODS Patients already treated with ONS reporting stable treatment effect were included. "Effective stimulation," "subthreshold stimulation" and "no stimulation" were compared. Patients cycled ...

A case of spinal cord stimulation in Raynaud's Phenomenon: can subthreshold sensory stimulation have an effect?

Spinal cord stimulation is currently used to treat a variety of chronic intractable painful conditions. We report a case of severe Raynaud's phenomenon in the hands refractory to conservative treatment and responsive to diagnostic stellate ganglion block that was effectively treated with a spinal cord stimulator placed in the cervical epidural space. After capturing the affected areas with pare...

that is rapidly gaining popularity for a variety of clinical conditions. Despite its straightforward nature, the modality has been for a long time treated as a ‘stepchild’ of the neuromodulation field, yielding the spotlight to the more ubiquitous spinal cord stimulation (SCS) and the more elegant deep brain stimulation (DBS) approaches. Interestingly enough, the main theoretical explanation of...

Visual phosphene perception modulated by subthreshold crossmodal sensory stimulation.

Crossmodal sensory interactions serve to integrate behaviorally relevant sensory stimuli. In this study, we investigated the effect of modulating crossmodal interactions between visual and somatosensory stimuli that in isolation do not reach perceptual awareness. When a subthreshold somatosensory stimulus was delivered within close spatiotemporal congruency to the expected site of perception of...
